| PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: ICANotes |
|
Recently, I had the
opportunity to sit down and visit with Ira Morganstern, MD,
the president and founder of ICANotes - an EMR designed
specifically for mental health practitioners. My visit
with Dr. Morganstern was both cordial and insightful.
We visited about the industry as a whole, resellers, the
company, and their reseller program. I found the
product to be extremely feature-rich and easy-to-use, and the
staff at ICANotes to be knowledgeable and easy-to-work with.
Company: ICANotes was originally designed for Dr. Morganstern's use in his psychiatry practice. He is still a practicing psychiatrist who uses the application in his practice, although the large majority of his time is now spent managing the company. Over the last five years, ICANotes has sold nearly 600 copies to individuals, groups, and hospitals. About 7 months ago ICANotes released an additional internet version on which it already has 140 users to date.
Much of ICANotes success
can be attributed to both the quality of their software and
a focused marketing plan that includes: a
monthly ad in
Psychiatric Times, exhibits at the major psychiatric
conventions, and a strong web presence. All of these
sources have generated sales and hundreds of qualified leads
-- leads that can be shared with knowledgeable resellers.
ICANotes is constantly
improving and will continue to evolve as mental health
documentation requirements change, however, there are an
exceptional number of features that will benefit any mental
health practitioner who implements the system today.
Features: ICANotes comes in a Stand Alone Version, a Networkable Version, and an Internet Version. It is easily scalable and is perfect for all sizes of Mental Health Practice. I can say with all confidence, after seeing a thorough demo of ICANotes, that this program is easily the most sophisticated and feature rich EMR software for Mental Health Clinicians on the market today. ICANotes makes Initial Evaluations, Progress Notes, Treatment Plans and Discharge Summaries. Prescribers can also print prescriptions. Additionally, ICANotes handles Medication Alerts and Treatment Algorithms. Notes for Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Group Therapists, Psychiatric Nurses and Counselors are all supported.
In ICANotes, notes do not read
as if written with the assistance of a computer. They are in
narrative form, use the correct pronouns and patient's name, and
are grammatical and thorough. Notes are created with
little or no typing on the part of the clinician.
Additionally, from these notes, ICANotes automatically arrives
at the highest permissible service code (which determines
reimbursement). In my experience, this type of automatic
E/M coding is found in very few systems on the market today.
Because ICANotes was created by
a Psychiatrist and has enjoyed the feedback of hundreds of users
for the past five years, it provides many special features that
make work faster and easier for the Mental Health Clinician. It
is enjoying rapidly increasing sales and a high degree of user
acceptance.
ICANotes is readily interfaced
with most existing Practice Management Software and for Mental
Health Practitioners there really is no better EMR software on
the market for their specific needs. A tight focus on the
needs of the mental health clinicians has produced a package
that meets most of the needs of this specialized market.
After spending the last few weeks working with and getting to know Ira Morganstern MD and the staff at ICANotes, I can without question recommend them as a primary or secondary line for any medical software reseller. They are a good young company, with a great product. -- Kevin Burdick,
