released on 04.27.06. Software companies will be asked
to pay a fee of $28,000 for EHR Certification. |

The Dark Horse EHR – VistA |
Threat, Opportunity, or something to
ignore? It is out of the news, but last year
there was quite a buzz about CMS’s plans to release a
“free” EHR, VistA Office-EHR, based on the successful
EHR in use in the Veteran’s Administration. This idea
was one of a many initiatives by the federal government
to accelerate the adoption of EHR across the country.
However, CMS delayed the release for 1 year and is
currently doing another round of “beta testing” with
about 12 small practices. They have publicly stated that
they hope to release a refined version after this round
of testing. Should resellers be worried, or perhaps is
VistA an opportunity?
