Top Story:
What is all this CCHIT?!?!? |
|
In general, EMR companies seem to be split down the
middle of the road on the importance of certifying with CCHIT. At
this years TEPR, you would have though that CCHIT was a four-letter
word, the way that representatives from the smaller EMR companies
were throwing out their name. AND, while I understand their
frustration, the truth of CCHIT Certification is found somewhere
between the large established EMR companies' perspective (inspired
by their vested interest) and the small to mid-sized EMR companies' perspective
(fueled by their general skepticism).

The Real Value of Electronic Solutions
-
Connecting Dissimilar Systems
Efficiency and error reduction are two of the most often
discussed “values” of electronic solutions. Experience
and empirical data support these as two of the most
important benefits. However, the increasing propensity
with which small to medium sized businesses purchase
multiple electronic solutions has drastically amplified
the need for exchanging data between systems. The data
exchange software is commonly referred to as a database
interface or simply and an interface. Let’s add
“interface” to our list of important benefits of
electronic solutions.

EHR Corner:
Who’s Driving this Freighter? |

Some of you might be wondering what’s
going on at the helm of the President’s effort to bring
all Americans interoperable electronic health records by
2014. Close to the helm of this massive federal
initiative is the American Health Information Community,
or AHIC for short. AHIC is a high level advisory panel
with representatives from government, vendors,
providers, employers and consumer groups. They are
leading the effort which will impact your lives and
businesses through the rest of the decade.

Q: How many doctors does it take to screw in a
light bulb?
-
That depends on whether it has health
insurance.
-
Three. One to find a bulb specialist, one to
find a bulb installation specialist, and one to bill it all
to Medicare.
-
None. They just tell it to take two aspirin
and come round to the surgery later.
-
None. They only sign the death certificate
and phone the mortuary.
